Our Story
The Cats are a proud and competitive member of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) and Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference (RMLC). We have consistently experienced growth since 2003 when the team was formed and continue to proudly represent Montana State University.
The team successfully won the RMLC title and advanced to the MCLA national tournament in 2014 where they finished within the top 16 teams in the nation.
In 2016, we successfully remained undefeated (15-0) as we advanced to the national tournament for the second time in team history. In the national tournament, we fought hard until the end and surprised many other teams with how close the game ended. We finished the season 15-1 with intentions to make it to the national tournament again! Our 2016 team received honors across in every position including coach Chris Kelley and holds 7 spots on the First Team, Division II.
In 2018, we won the 2018 RMLC Championship over CU Denver. The Cats went on to the National Tournament in Salt Lake and won the first round match over Dayton. The Cats lost in the quarterfinals to NDSU.
In 2024, the Cats returned to the National Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, this time as the 4 seed. The Cats won the first two rounds of the tournament setting up an RMLC Championship Rematch against the Air Force Falcons. The Cats won with a commanding 21-4 victory to reach our first MCLA National Championship Game. The Cats were able to come from behind to beat St. Thomas 12-7 for the Championship.
